Comments: The No. 10-ranked Cal women's varsity eight finished two lengths behind the fifth-ranked Washington Huskies in a dual race on the on the Montlake Cut in Seattle, WA, April 28. The Huskies win extended their dual race winning streak to 11 straight over the Bears.

"I'm really pleased with the way our young varsity eight has developed over the course of the season," said coach Dave O'Neill. "However, it is obvious we are not yet where we need to be."

In the women's varsity event, the Huskies got off to an early lead and continued to push all the way to the finish. By the time the crews had covered the 2000m course, the margin was 7.2 seconds.

In the JV event, the Bears put together one of closest contests at that level in recent history, but still finished 2.2 seconds off Washington's pace.

"Our JV crew had a great race, but we can't be satisfied with just being close." said O'Neil.

In other women's racing, Washington took decisions in the novice eight and varsity coxed four races to complete a sweep of the Bears women's crews.

Cal gets a week off from competition before the crews travel to the Pac-10 Championships on Lake Natoma in Rancho Cordova, May 13. The Bears primary competition at Pac-10s will be the same Husky crews as well as strong crews from USC.
