Distance: 2000 Wind: During Race times the winds was a strong SW cross wind with a steady blow of 20mph with gusts up to 30mph Water: Water today was quite rough due to the high cross winds. Coxswains needed to steer slightly into the wind to stay on course. Current: Crossing head wind No Current Comments: The Varsity 8 race was the most closely run race of the day. Dayton took a great start and led the field by 3-4 seats by the 200 m. mark. At the 250, the Indiana stoke caught an over the head crab. The 7 seat stopped rowing to assist getting the oar back. Indiana lost 2 lengths to Cincinnati who was now 1/2 length down to Dayton. The Hoosiers restarted and began regaining water on UC. By the 1000 IU had regained 2nd place and were moving on UD who had about 1 lengh on UC and IU. IU continued to move strongly in the crossing head wind and was even with UD by the 500m. The two boats were basically even as they passed the 250 and IU started to move ahead. With 150 meters to go IU was ahead of UD by 2 seats, however becasue of the strong wind and overcompensation by the coxswain the IU boat passed the finsih line on the wrong side of the finish line offcial boat. UD was given the win and UC finished 6.71 seconds back of IU.
