TOKYO 2020 RECAP

The Canadians continued to extend their lead over Australia and New Zealand in the second quarter, leading by nearly half a length. The Kiwis starting moving in the third 500, surging into second, but could not catch Canada who won the gold, with China sprinting through for the bronze over the United States.

2022 SEASON RECAP
Through limited racing during 2022, several eights showed they were fast this season, with Romania taking the European Championship, Australia World Cup III, and The Netherlands both World Cup I and II. In Canada's one appearance, they took the silver in Lucerne.
USA PROSPECTS
The 2022 USA women's eight is a mixture of experience with some new faces. There are five Olympians from Tokyo on board: Madeleine Wanamaker, Charlotte Buck, Regina Salmons, Jessica Thoennes, and Claire Collins.
Joining them will be Molly Bruggeman, a world and U23 champion, and Alina Hagstrom and Kelsey Reelick who make their senior worlds debuts this year. Hagstrom won the 2018 U23 W2- (with Salmons) and Reelick last raced internationally in the 2008 JW4x. The crew is coxed by Hannah Broadland, who coxed the U23 W4+ in 2021.
MEDAL PICKS
This one is near impossible to pick. With the absence of New Zealand, Great Britain, and Germany, there are only six entries, so there will be a race for lanes straight to the final. Another factor that makes this final tough to predict is a larger than normal amount of doubling up. The Netherlands is racing their W2-, W2x, and W4- in the eight; Romania, their W2- and W4-, and the USA, their W2-.
Based on 2022 results so far, and which countries have the most racing experience, best guess is the most likely medalists will be Romania, USA, and The Netherlands with Canada and Australia right there as well.
GOLD – THE NETHERLANDS
SILVER – UNITED STATES
BRONZE - ROMANIA
