TOKYO 2020 RECAP
Canada had a fast start and led New Zealand to the thousand with both Great Britain and the Russian Olympic Committee still in contact. The Kiwi pair of Prendergast and Williams took the lead in the third 500 and sprinted to win the gold, with ROC edging out Canada for the silver. GBR, GRE, and ESP rounded out places fourth to sixth.
Watch the Olympic Final here, W2- final starts around 1:03:00.
2022 SEASON RECAP
This year has seen a variety of winners in the women's pair, but the Olympic Champions from New Zealand, Grace Prendergast and Kerri Williams won in Lucerne at World Cup III in their only appearance so far in 2022. They were closely chased by the Romanians (European Champs) and British (winners at World Cup I). Then the Dutch and American pairs have also shown speed, taking the top two spots at World Cup II respectively.
USA PROSPECTS
The USA women's pair of Madeleine Wanamaker and Claire Collins were the top USA pair at NSR 2, and were selected to the team via their NSR win and second place finish at World Cup II in June. The duo was the bow pair of the USA W4- at the Tokyo Olympics, which won the B Final. Of note, Collins and Wanamaker are doubling into the eight at Worlds, so will get lots of racing opportunities. They should be in the mix to make the A Final in Racice and in the hunt for a medal.
MEDAL PICKS
New Zealand comes in as the favorites, but will be hard pressed by Romania, Great Britain, The Netherlands, and USA for the medals. Additional pairs that could contend for the final are Spain, Croatia, and Canada.
GOLD – NEW ZEALAND
SILVER – ROMANIA
BRONZE - GREAT BRITAIN
