Two reps in the women's double was the sum total of racing today at NSR 2, with six crews advancing to tomorrow's semifinals.
The progression from today's reps was 3 to advance, which, thanks to late scratches, meant that each race this morning eliminated just one crew each.
All four of the athletes who finished first today missed making it past the Reps in the W1x racing at NSR1 back in March, so they are now on to the next round here in the doubles.
"We viewed today as an opportunity to practice our full race plan and fine tune some technical changes," said Sera Moon Busse, who along with partner Cristina Pretto took first in her rep. "We're really happy with how we executed, and are turning our attention to replicate that feeling tomorrow with a little more spice!"
The other rep was won by Veronica Nicacio and Megan Goodman.
"Throughout training and especially racing, I tend to run on a lot of over-the-top excited nerves, joy, and positivity - it has been such a thrill to go down the course with Veronica and ride that hype," said Goodman after the race. "Our ARION team and coaching staff has built a culture where going fast is fun, and we are all out there just trying to have fun and find speed. Back home in Saratoga, we have an incredible community supporting us, and it is really awesome to get to show all that we’ve been working on."
Who says reps don't bring out the excitement in folks? Nicacio and Goodman's win may have been especially sweet, since they were the crew just on the wrong end of the narrow 0.28 margin we mentioned in yesterday's report.
