A major storm cell attacked the regatta site, shortly after 17:00 local time, causing chaos and destruction at the Racice racing venue.
With winds clocking nearly 70 mph, the storm picked up a rack full of coxed fours and moved it about 30 meters, lifting it up over the Polish eight in the process.
Several U.S. crews were just coming in from practice and thankfully everyone is fine. As far as we know the only U.S. boat to be damaged was the men's 4+ which was on the rack in the pictures, but that may change on closer inspection.
There is a lot of minor damage to boats in all classes so we will see how the regatta plays out tomorrow. The schedule’s being modified to accommodate teams who need to fix or replace their boats.
