Six more members of the US 2006 Worlds team were named today after winning their respective second final in the best-of-three format:
To address the re-row in the light women's 4x as briefly as possible: row2k posted a correction late last night regarding the re-row in the light women's quad; it appears that our source for the correction was mistaken on a few points, and I apologize for the resulting confusion. Marika Page did sub for Gretchen Horner-Wright after all, and as for the issue of crab vs. equipment breakage, this apparently did not factor heavily in the decision to re-row with a substitute or not, so it's likely best to let it lie, as it only really matters to the people in the boat. As I wrote last night, we're just pulling for a full and fast recovery for Gretchen. USRowing sensibly tends to err on the side of inclusiveness in these cases, ie. to let folks race it out, and in the end the Potomac Boat Club/Pocock Elite crew that won Final One two days ago repeated today, and was named to the team. Tremendous congrats to the crew, as they clearly earned a spot on the team the hard way over the past few days.
The light women's 1x will go to a third final tomorrow morning after Meghan Sarbanis made it 1-1 with Lisa Schlenker; the race looked nearly identical to yesterday's first final, with Meghan leading the field by a few seats coming into the final 250, but this morning Lisa was unable to push through to the lead like she did yesterday in dramatic fashion. The two scullers will meet in a two-boat dual tomorrow morning to decide the outcome of the trial; tremendous luck to both.
