Wednesday 28th July
If the old adage that adversity reveals a person´s true nature is correct, then my true nature is that of a grouchy bastard. After a mishap at the start we had to settle for second in our heat yesterday. This means we have to race the repechage tomorrow instead of having time off before the final. Now I view it as another opportunity to tighten up our race plan but I couldn´t pretend yesterday that I was happy with the result and my boat-mates had to deal with my bad attitude.
However, our boat wasn´t the only one that had to overcome adversity. Two single scullers (including the famous Rich Montgomery) cut their toes on a sharp tile in the hotel pool on Monday. Don´t worry ladies, the doctors say that Rich will pull through with flying colors. (Ed.'s note: After an exhaustive investigation by Spanish authorities, sloppy toe-ing was ruled out in the pool incident; they're singles after all.)
-later,
the saw
