The first final of the non-Olympic Worlds trials concluded today with decisive wins in every event save one - despite crossing 500 to go with an open water margin in the light men's single, Andy Liverman held on to win the final by 0.21 seconds over Jeff Anchukaitis. Anchukaitis has been hot on Liverman's heels for two days; the margin in yesterday's semi was 0.49. Arguably there was only one surprise outcome - a coxed four made up of rowers from the Olympic camp who did not make the team fell to an under-23 crew that has been training at Mercer Lake.
Tomorrow is a new day, however, and the second finals in the best-of-three format begin at 7:30am. The Worlds will be held July 27-August 1 in Banyoles, Spain, on the 1992 Olympic course.
