Conditions
A calming fog descended onto the course this morning; there was very little wind, although the arrival of the sun usually heralds some sort of conditions. It looks like we'll have a very similar wind to yesterday; quartering head off starboard, which may give a little help to crews in the outside lanes.
The Power of the Press
Rumor has it that row2k's posting of smuggling folks into the venue in car trunks has inspired trunk searches of all cars coming into the compound. Sorry about that, but the folks who did it insisted I tell the story...
Skit Night
Very high quality US team Skit Night last night, with what might have been the strangest, most unnerving skit ever performed from the US men's double and sculling spares. Scripture, pagan overtones, bodily contortions, and deadpan combined for a truly wild spectacle.
Tom Welsh reprised his down-home jokes, and gobbed on himself he was laughing so hard. The women's pair almost stole his thunder earlier with a similar gig, but both slayed the audience.
Steve Gillespie sang a four-minute song "What Would Igor Grinko Do," to accompaniment of musician Carol Skricki; Steve never once consulted notes; awesome performance
And the inevitable: the LW women's 4x and Alex Salamini did a "Mini-Mut," with Alex as Hartmut's diminutive clone.
Paul Teti has his imitation of brother Mike down to a science; the LW men's four skit involved the medical staff, with Doc Hosea as Father Tom, and Patty Ponce as a "stern" nun with a good set of legs.
The men's lightweight eight forecasted the miserable futures of most of the coaching staff; suffice to say that the Princeton Wawa is taking applications.
The men's pair played the National Anthem with their bodies, and the women's eight put on a riotous and completely wacky skit that I can hardly describe; suffice to say they look pretty funny with lipstick smeared across their faces.
Today's Racing
In addition to some hella semis today, the B finals take place immediately after the semis; several Olympic qualification spots are on the line today, it's gonna be a hot one.
