Distance: 4k Varsity / 2k Novice
Conditions: Quartering headwind, moderate for V8 & N4, strong with heavy chop for V4 & N8. Intermittent rain, heavy at times.
Comments: All races began even from a floating start. Novices raced 2k straight. Varsity raced 4k: straight for 2500m followed by a big U-turn for 1000m and a 500m straightaway to finish. Boats could choose their own line around the turn (did not have to hold lanes). V8 had a collision off the start and was realigned and restarted about 200m into the course.
Round one was V8 & N4. Round two was N8 & V4. Many athletes doubled between rounds. N8 raced twice in same lineups without docking - first time with suggested rate cap of 24, second time open rate.
