High School/Scholastic: Foley Cup: St Albans School versus Gonzaga College High School
May 4, 2018; Anacostia River, Washington, DC

Submitted by The Gonzaga Staff.

Distance: 1500 meters
Conditions: Gusting tailwind 13-18 knots, against an ebbing tide. Smoother water at the start, moderate chop the last 1000 meters. Winds increased over the racing period. Order of racing was 3v4, 2v8, 1v8. 2v8 race was a near dead heat, no photo finish equipment, margin observed was less than three feet.
Comments: Unseasonably hot, 88-90 degrees, but a great day of racing after school. This was the 15th running of the Foley Cup race for First Varsity Crews. Going into today, the schools had split the prior contests 8-6 in favor of Gonzaga, with each school winning two consecutive years in sequence since 2004. These two programs have produced six Stotesbury Cup winners and seven Hammer Trophy (2v8) winners since 2011. A great tradition started by coaches Dave Foley and Ted Haley lives on with gusto!
