In the 4th boat race, Middlesex, while about a length of open water down to BBB&N, caught a boat-stopping over-the-head crab. It took them some time to recover, get back on course and row again.
In the 5th boat race, Middlesex was well in the lead when they caught a boatstopper crab about halfway down the course. They veered into BB&N's lane, cutting across their path. BB&N steered away to avoid a collision but oars clashed and both crews were forced to stop rowing for a little while before separating and getting underway again. Had it been a varsity race, Middlesex would have been disqualified.
