Distance: 1500m
Conditions: Variable cross-headwind, light-moderate chop, driving rain for most of the day. A miserable day for crews waiting to be aligned and for our stake boat volunteers. Race order G5-B4-G4-B3-G3-B2-G2-B1-G1-B5. Headwind, rain, and chop varied between races. Winds and chop were strongest/roughest at the start and settled near the finish.
Comments: In the girls' third boat race, St Mark's separated a composite handle from the shaft, ending their race with 400m to go. In the girls' second boat race, Winsor was pinched between Taft and Pomfret off the start. Taft held their line, Winsor used appropriate rudder action to turn away, overlaped blades with Taft for two to three strokes, then found Pomfret on their starboard side. Both Pomfret and Winsor were set back approximately 20 seconds as they separated themselves and resumed racing. In the girls' first boat race, Pomfret drifted into Winsor off the start, overlapping blades for two to three strokes. Both crews were similarly affected by less than 5 seconds and the race continued without further incident. It should also be noted that Miss Porter's crews were scheduled to race in all events, but due to a vehicle accident on the way to the regatta, they arrived in time for only their first boat to race, surprising us all at the start line when a sixth crew appeared. We wish them all the best and we're glad to hear that everyone appears to be OK.
