HS/Scholastic: St. Mark's School (girls' fours) vs. Bancroft, Lincoln, Nobles
May 18, 2011; Lake Quinsigamond

Submitted by Andy Harris.

Distance: 1500 meters
Conditions: --Medium tailwind, sometimes crossing a bit from port. Fast conditions.
Comments: --Race order was 4-5-2-3-1. Bancroft hot-seated a rower between their 4th and 3rd boats, and as a result their 3rd boat raced without warm-up. The St. Mark's 3rd boat was scratched due to illness. --The 1st boat race was marred, and possibly affected, by a local but non-competing crew that was rowing up course, in two of our three racing lanes! The Nobles and St. Mark's coxswains must have been disconcerted to see boys' eights rowing toward them in their lanes, and the Nobles rowers must have been startled to have their race official (just behind them), normally a mild-mannered sort, cranking the power megaphone and bellowing about getting those "offending" boats off the course. The race itself was a barn-burner, a great credit to the athletes involved, and we deeply regret the distractions caused by our DRC neighbor.
