Distance: 1200 m Conditions: Flat water, little current. Gusting headwinds slowed the times. Sunny, 75 degrees. Comments: In the seocnd boat race, Groton had a lead of about two lengths at 600 meters when steering difficulties (the result, most likely of a replacement skeg/rudder combination that did not work well) caused them to hit both starboard oars on a tree sticking into the river. A crab ensued, and they lost a lot of time. Both coaches agreed that the result would have been quite different without that mishap.
