Conditions: 7-mile an hour cross-tail wind with flat water.
Comments: USC took an early 3/4 boat-length lead over Cal Lightweights off the start with San Diego State trailing early. Less than a length separated USC and Cal Lightweights over the next two miles with USC rating 31 and Cal l/ws rating 32-33 strokes per minute. USC opened up a lead of several boat-lengths in the last mile of the race to win.
