Conditions: A 12.4 mile open water race around Wye Island Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay near Easton, MD. The number thirteen definitely was not unlucky for the Thirteenth Annual Wye Island Regatta. The weather and water conditions were nearly perfect on an absolutely beautiful day. The only negative factor of the day was the high temperature that baked the rowers and paddlers as they circumnavigated Wye Island. The slight breeze made the spectators on land more comfortable but had little effect on those out on the water. Many of rowers/paddlers were understandably exhausted by the time they reached the Finish line. However, all participants seemed to have totally enjoyed the event and several records were broken. The number of boats and participants were not as high as usual but, this may have been due to the lingering uncertainty of what impact, if any, hurricane Ophelia was going to have on the event.
