High School/Scholastic: Brooks School JV Boys Fours vs. Groton, Belmont Hill
May 8, 2013; Lake Cochickewic

Submitted by Peter Olrich.

Distance: 1200 m
Conditions: Crazy day. Howling headwind for 8th boats, so we rowed on a 800m short course. Torrential rain, but somewhat less wind, for 7th boats. Milder for 6th boats, and downright reasonable for 5th. Headwind all day.
Comments: Great day of racing, with a little bit of everything. Crazy weather, a jumped slide, a snapped steering cable, and one of the best 5th boat races ever rowed by three crews anywhere (Brooks by a couple of feet over Groton and BHS--three boats never separated all the way down the course). Thanks to Groton and Belmont Hill athletes and coaches for a memorable and wild day of racing. *8th boats rowed 800m on shortened course due to wind **Belmont 7th boat was ahead by 1L open and rowing very well when they snapped a steering cable, veered across Brooks, but still raced to the finish, albeit at a terrible angle.
