1997 PORTLAND LOOP REGATTA OF CHAMPIONS

Jim's comments on the race: Portland Loop is a head race starting at Lake Oswego and finishing just North of the Sellwood bridge at Oaks Park. Conditions were beautiful with no wind and a strong current. The sun even shone through for the last flight. However, the heavy rains earlier in the week flush into the river quite a bit of debris. At least 6 boats lost their skegs and/or rudders either on the way to the start or during the race. I believe even the Unviersity of Washington varsity women's 8+ even lost their skeg.
