CAL MEN’S CREW OVERPOWERS STANFORD

Saturday, May 2
Redwood Shores, CA—The Cal men’s crew overpowered Stanford in dual races at the varsity, JV, and freshman levels on the Redwood Shores Lagoon, Saturday, May 2. In addition the Golden Bear second freshman eight split into fours, both finishing ahead of the Stanford frosh coxed four.

"It was good for our varsity to get a solid race under its belt as we closed out the regular season," said coach Steve Gladstone. "Now its time to shift gear as we enter the championship phase of our schedule. With Pac-10s quickly approaching on May 17 and the IRA to follow the last weekend in May, our crews need to take it to the next level if we are going to accomplish the goals we set for ourselves at the beginning of the season."

In each of the today’s races, the Bears jumped off the line and took command in the first 500 meters. The crews rowed hard and continued to build on their respective leads throughout the race. The closest men’s race of the day was the varsity eight with Cal winning by just over 14 seconds. In the JV and frosh races, the margins of victory were 30 and 39 seconds.
