1998 Harvard- Yale race

June 6, 1998; Thames River, Ledyard, CT


Conditions:

Varsity 8:
Harvard 20:32.3
Yale    21:53.7
Four miles upstream, into a very strong headwind.  Yale took an early lead
of up to six seats, although Harvard, rowing lower, eventually rowed back
into Yale to gain the lead at the 1.5 mile mark.  Yale challenged for the
next half-mile, but from the 2 to 3 mile mark, Harvard moved out to open
water, and extended to the finish.

Harvard 16:12
Yale    (open water behind)

Freshman 8
Harvard  10:45
Yale     10:52
Two miles.  Yale led early, for the first several hundred meters, before
Harvard took the lead for the rest of the two-mile course.
