Carnegie Cup: Yale, Cornell @ Princeton (HW men)

April 25, 1998; Lake Carnegie, Princeton, NJ

Conditions: strong, gusty headwind coming directly up the course.

Varsity 8
Princeton 6:09.5
Yale 6:20.4
Cornell 6:39.3
Comments: extraordinary performance from the Princeton Varsity. The race developed more or less as follows: All three boats went off together, with an early lead going to Yale. Princeton may have trailed by as much as 4-5 seats through the first 750 meters, with Yale looking very strong and composed, and rowing very well. At this point, Cornell faltered, unable to go with the other crews. At around the 1000 meter mark, Princeton began moving back, drawing even in the third 500. The Princeton crew took complete control of the race, marching out methodically to open water, and finally to the 10.9 second winning margin.

Second Varsity 8
Princeton 6:16.6
Yale 6:24.4
Cornell 6:31.0

Third Varsity 8
Princeton 6:45.2
Princeton LW 3V 6:55.0
Cornell 7:10.6

First Freshman
Princeton 6:19.4
Yale 6:32.6
Cornell 6:45.1
Comments: very strong race by Princeton, who rowed the bulk of the race between 32 and 34, crossing the line at 32.

Second Freshman 8
Princeton 6:48.7
Yale 6:52.2
Cornell 7:02.3
