Bears Drop Tight Race to Washington State

Saturday, May 2
Redwood Shores, CA—In dual race competition against Washington State, the Cal varsity came up short at the finish loosing to Washington State by 2 seconds on the Redwood Shores Lagoon, Saturday, May 2.
After sweeping Stanford in the morning session, the afternoon racing got off to a promising start with the Cal novice and JV crews defeating strong crews from WSU, however, the Golden Bear varsity was unable to best the Cougars over the 2000-meter course.
Washington State took the upper hand in the early going extending its lead over Cal to a full boat length. Although the Bears closed in the late stages of the race, the Cougars held on for the three seat victory.
The Cal women’s varsity eight will cap off a long weekend of racing when they take on Kansas, Sunday, May 3 at 10 a.m.
