I was second in this FSRA heat with TTC. In my defense, top two went straight to finals so it wasnt worth it to go all out when we both had open water on third place. But he is ridiculous, he ways probably 145 and will be rowing for Dartmouth next year. Great athlete. hes built for this sport
I actually taught the Tampa TC kid how to row when he was an 8th grader. The kid weighs maybe 145 lbs soaking wet, and is the most humble athlete I have ever met. He mostly trains on his own as he actually lives on the East Coast of Florida, with limited private sessions in Tampa. I don't care if he wins or not, but what he did on that course cannot be dismissed.
I don't know what the distance was (I'm assuming 1500m), but the Tampa JM1X time was about the same as the winning time for the JM1X at 2010 Brentwood (5:49.3 and 5:49.91). Comparing times isn't really valid, but the Tampa 1X's performance shouldn't be so easily dismissed.
Voted for that tampa kid. it was either him or Genevra Stone. The kid flipped, got in and still won, wow!. I was a bit hesitant though. Clearly outclassing the field, maybe he should sack up and row in the SR event(unless of course jr refers to u19). Pretty cool thing to do, just hope he isnt rowing down
Go Tampa kid! I haven't seen that happen in a very long time.
I congratulate Stone on the NSR1 win, but I think it's important to note that everyone at NSR has to balance something, and/or put life & career on hold. It's the nature of our sport and of being an amateur athlete, and I applaud all of the national team and national team hopefuls for achieving this fine balance -- there are many amazing stories out there!
