Congratulations to so many qualified crews this year, each one of these nominees brought success and strength to the world wide rowing forum. Impressed with NZL M2- not easy to win all three world cups, CALs WV8+ - Jill Costello’s amazing performance, UVA made a statement this year, Yale’s WV8+ just keeps bringing it on. Brentwood – 48 seconds that record will be hard to beat. Cal Mens V8+ way to hang in there at the IRA's. CBC watch out for them this coming year, Marina AC MLW8 way to go at YNC. Congrats USA U23 W2- for earning the first gold metal in this event for the USA and a WR. Great year, can’t wait for 2011!
The description for the USA U23 W2- is very deceiving. They did not win by open water in Belarus, in fact the exact opposite.
Although there is no denying the USA U23 W2- was a fast crew, I really dont feel they are 'crew of the year' material. Yes they went blazing fast at trials, but having seen the A final in Belarus first hand their race at the regatta was not out of this world. Despite having a 4 second lead at the 500, the crew nearly got rowed through by Romania in the final 100m winning by .3 of a second. Sorry, but I think Cal's MV8 accomplishment tops that.
my vote goes to the MAC lightweight boys, I raced those guys in highschool and let me tell you they came out of nowhere. To come and win junior nationals after not even being in contention to go to nationals at the start of the season is incredible.
How does this poll exclude the Croatian Men's Quad?! Unfathomable! Those guys won the U23 world championship, EVERY World Cup event... AND the World championship.
I dislike and usually don't pay attention to these polls because they don't matter. Not having these guys at least mentioned irked me.
I to would have voted for the for that quad. they are FAST. If I recall correctly there last 500 at one of the world cups was faster than any of the eights.
Vote CBC girls. Cal Mens v8 is an amazing story, and I would vote them boat of the year, but Liz Trond and her girls at CBC were amazing and truly are the crew of the year. They Dominated Northeast regionals, and were the girls force to be reckoned with at Cinci. As for the comment about being Maritime/ SoNo/CBC if you witnessed those girls at Saratoga just days after Liz founded CBC in borrowed boats, and home made racing gear I think you wouldn't add the other names to the award. They over came adversity and DOMINATED go CBC, and go Liz Trond
It wasn't just that the CAL Men defeated "a crew they had lost to several times." They defeated a crew that EVERYONE had lost to, several times ... and that many were hailing as one of the greatest college crews ever to take the water ... and they did it in the last 20 strokes of the last race. It was a race for the ages. It was the type of thing we talk about when we tell stories about how crew builds character. The CAL Men's 8 wins the title of "Crew of the Year" = by a bowball!
I went for the Kiwi pair for winning one of the best ever races at the World Championships. I would have liked to have seen Eton included in the nominations for producing one of the finest schoolboy 8's ever. Rarely can a crew of 18 year old (and younger) race against, and beat National U23 crews (which they did at Duisburg) or give the Oxford and Cambridge Blue Boats a run for their money (which they did during the 2010 regatta season). Don't forget they won youth eights at the HOCR regatta by over 40 seconds and completely dominated the field at Henley.

I agree with other posts that mention the Eton crew as they were an incredible boat.
Lastly, shouldn't the CBC women be labeled as Maritime/ SoNo/ CBC for accuracy purposes?
