1. What inspired you to go to your first rowing practice; was there anything memorable about it?
I don't have actually a memory of my first practice of rowing, I can say that I am related to rowing because of my father, rowing has been around me since I can remember. I tried rowing three separate times, because at that time they needed one girl at the club to complete the double to race at the nationals.
I will be sincere, I didn't like it at the beginning, I was afraid that my body will look like a man's, those stupid thoughts at that age (I was 14). But I remember when I started to like the single, when I began to win races, the feeling of passing the other boats, legs burning, yeah!
2. Was there a practice, race or other event when you fell in love with the sport, or when you knew you might not be too bad at rowing? When you thought you could make the national team?
I can recall one experience that I would say was the beginning of my rowing career, in 2013 I was selected by the national federation to participated in a training camp by FISA in Seville, Spain with Thor Nielsen and other coaches. I was there for almost a month, that exposure to real rowing, be surrounded by seniors' rowers, plus being at the training center, make me realize that I want that lifestyle. After that experience I started to be more responsible with training, and not show up just the week before races for the nationals.
3. Best race/practice, worst race/practice?
I think the best race so far that I have done was during the heats at the Olympic Qualification race, I posted the fastest time. I really do not remember anything of what happened during those 2k, only that I gave everything as much possible to qualify direct to the final.
And the worst race that I can think of, was during the U23 world rowing championship in 2018. I was last, yeah it was very frustrating at that moment.
4. Best/Anything you've done in the sport no one knows about?
I would say that qualifying to Tokyo 2020 with the best result in the history of Paraguay, because not only qualified but I was able to get on the podium, and become South-American champion in the single for the first time in the history of Paraguayan Rowing.
Not only talking about results, I think that back in 2015 when I decide to leave Paraguay and went to USA, to continue rowing and studying, I believe that I "created" a new path in rowing in Paraguay, that there is a way that after finishing school you can continue rowing and pursuing a career at college. I was the first rower from Paraguay to get a scholarship in a university in USA.
5. Any/Most important advice for young rowers?
Love what you do, do what you love. Always be passionate of what you do, does not have to be rowing, can be in any other sport, any other aspect of your life. And the most important thing is to "NEVER EVER GIVE UP."
