ATHENS, 15 August - Matt Smith, the executive director of FISA, rowing's governing body, made the following announcement after Saturday's racing. "The weather forecasts for Sunday 15th and Monday 16th August show that the wind will increase during Sunday and for very strong winds on Monday.
As you can see in the photo accompanying this article, conditions look decidedly different around dawn this morning.
It has been decided that the races on Sunday will be at 7-minute intervals (not 10'), so that racing will finish one hour earlier. Racing on Sunday will start at the normal time of 08:30. It may not be possible to race at all on Monday, so the change to the Sunday timetable is decided to ensure that all the heats can be finished before the wind becomes too strong."
