The last couple days have seen several crews get closer to Olympic team membership, while others very probably saw the end of their careers. Find full results here.
The margins between crews advancing and those failing to advance was at least a couple seconds in all cases. There were a couple tough ones to watch today: in the women's pair, the heats and reps were run to eliminate just one of the five crews entered; Laura Rauchfuss and Kristen Goodrich fell today in the rep. Even tougher to watch: Steve Gillespie and Eric Mueller failed to make the finals; why is this a tough one? Steve qualified the double for the Games last year, and Eric had a very long year and change, fighting mono almost the whole way. After losing a brutally tight heat yesterday morning, their row through the reps last night could not have helped. Onward soldiers - for example, Mueller, who does have a silver medal from Atlanta after all, heads back to Wisco to coach the frosh. They're all solid oars; good luck to all whether they continue in the sport, or head on to dryer pastures.
The first finals take place Tuesday morning; the top three of each four-boat final advance to the second final in the best-of-three format. Final two is Wednesday morning; the if-necessary final three would be Thursday morning. The men's pair and women's pair and men's double contested so far will be joined by the final-only women's light doubles; see the schedule here.
