The second men's single final produced a near-carbon copy of yesterday's final, save for the verdict at the finish line.
Conal Groom once again took the lead and ran with it, and Adam Holland once again put on a furious charge to the finish line. Where yesterday Adam edged ahead by a quarter second (0.25), today he fell short by the same amount (0.24 seconds to be precise), as Conal held on for the win. Adam and Conal will race mano-a-mano in a two-boat third final tomorrow morning at 7am.
The two scullers seem incredibly evenly matched; with the controversy surrounding the racing, and the race going to a third final, it may become a war of attrition; talk about a brutal trial, whew. Tremendous luck to both scullers tomorrow.
In the women's single, women's double, and lightweight double, yesterday's winners repeated this morning, and have been named the US entries in the Olympic qualifier in Lucerne on June 10-13. The crews:
Women's 1x: Jen Devine
Women's 2x: Ala Piotrowski and Carol Skricki
Light men's 2x: Greg Ruckman and Steve Tucker
Jen and the light double each won their final handily, by open water; Ala and Carol had to fight off a late charge by Kristin Goodrich and Dana Peirce that brought them within about 2/3 of a length in the final strokes.
