One week after the live 500 meter split effort collapsed for afternoon racing at Redwood Shores, Jamco galley chief Kent Mitchell announced his solution for the Crew Classic.
"We have a timer for each 500, and have decided for the benefit of the online global rowing audience that the best solution will be not only to have fixed markers on each 500 meter mark, but to have fixed humans as well," Mitchell was overheard to say as he unloaded restraints purchased at "Abierto," a swingers supply store just across the border in Tijuana.
When asked for comments, "Heave," said one timer. "Ho," said another.
