Philadelphia regatta organizers have announced a new social media campaign designed to promote safety and better understanding out on the race course between local officials and out-of-town coxswains.
"We are just two weekend into the racing season, and the referees have already reached their limit with visiting coxswains ignoring commands out on the race course," said Libby O'Shea, Safety Chair.
"After years of just yelling louder, we've decided to take a more high tech approach," said O'Shea, "using gifs, memes, and video to teach coxswains what they need to know to listen effectively on the Schuylkill when they come here to race."
O'Shea asks that non-local coxswains watch for instructional posts like this one on all Boathouse Row related social media channels.
