Classifying music played over a personal music system using headsets as "performance enhancing," a ban on music at indoor world championship is under consideration at rowing governing body offices.
"After the last World Rowing National World Indoor Rowing event, we were cleaning up earbuds for hours," a representative said. "And anyway, real athletes don't need music."
Despite some high-profile CrossFitters having disparaged the use of music during their WOD, officers at CrossFit headquarters in Washington DC were skeptical about the review.
"We are driving most of the new interest in indoor rowing, and not all of our folks will be happy," they said in an emailed statement. "We have a couple kettlebells we can help them sit on while they do their review."
