The Dad Vail Regatta Organizing Committee announced today that the 82nd Dad Vail Regatta has been cancelled.
The Dad Vail Regatta was one of the last collegiate regattas not to have cancelled for 2020 - the ACRA Championship is pretty much the only event not to have cancelled - here is the ACRA statement as of March 16 2020.
The DVROC's release follows:
Dad Vail Regatta Organizing Committee - March 20, 2020 Third Update on Coronavirus -Plans to Cancel the Dad Vail Regatta Originally Scheduled for Friday May 8, 2020 and Saturday May 9, 2020.
This is the Third Dad Vail Regatta Organizing Committee ("DVROC") Update on the status of the Dad Vail Regatta with respect to the coronavirus, Covid-19, following the prior two, first circulated on March 3, and March 17, 2020.
In order to comply with government recommendations, the Dad Vail Regatta Organizing Committee has decided to cancel staging the 82nd Annual Dad Vail Regatta, on Friday, May 8, and Saturday May 9, 2020. As previously reported, DVROC adheres to all emergency health protocols adopted and announced by Federal, State and City authorities.
The Dad Vail Regatta Organizing Committee members have been collaborating daily regarding the 2020 Regatta and we are aware and disappointed that the current health crisis has caused many traditional Dad Vail schools to cancel their season, and the impact that has had on coaches and athletes.
To reiterate, in order to comply with all authoritative guidelines, the 82nd Annual Dad Vail Regatta is canceled.
Please refer to the CDC website for essential guidelines, precautions and vigilance called for at this time.
Thank you for your ongoing interest, loyalty to and support of the Dad Vail Regatta.
James R. Hanna, President
Dad Vail Regatta Organizing Committee
