As the COVID-19 outbreak continues to change on a daily basis, the health and safety of our athletes, officials, volunteers, fans and event hosts are our top priority. On a daily basis USRowing's Coronavirus Response Team is monitoring official information on COVID-19 from health authorities and assessing the impact on the rowing community.
As of Thursday, March 12, Olympic Trials I and Olympic Trials II will go on as scheduled with essential personnel only. These two events are deemed essential to hold, so athletes can stay on the Olympic Selection timeline for the Games in Tokyo in July. We are asking that spectator attendance for these events be limited to immediate family only and that everyone practice social-distancing protocols and basic protective measures including recommended hand hygiene. USRowing will be cancelling all non-essential events through the weekend of April 25- 26 including the Under 19 National Team ID Camps and Level 2 Coaching Education Clinics. For athletes who were scheduled to attend the cancelled Under 19 National Team ID Camps, we will have more information on our website about submitting erg scores and other supporting material later this week.
The International Olympic Committee has been consistent in its statement that currently the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games will proceed as planned this summer. Advice from worldwide authorities continues to prioritize general good practices in health and transmission prevention. USRowing will continue to organize essential National Team events as planned until given a specific directive from the public health authority in the relevant region or the Olympic qualification process changes. Steps will be taken to minimize the negative impact on the health of participants at events and that any disruption to athletes and athletes' preparation for Tokyo 2020 is minimized.
All USRowing-owned Domestic regattas beginning May 1 or later are currently scheduled to take place as planned. We are closely monitoring the situation and will be following directives from the relevant public health authorities in each of our scheduled locations. USRowing will be establishing decision-making timelines for our upcoming regional and national championships and publish them next week in order to keep all of our members and organizations informed. As the outbreak progresses, USRowing will continue to follow the advice of the CDC and directives from public health authorities.
