December 6th, 2022 - The Philadelphia Gold Challenge Cup Foundation invited the World's best single scullers back to race in the greater Philadelphia area after postponing the event for the past two years.
Reigning Gold Cup Champion Emma Twigg of New Zealand won the women's division, taking home the title of Gold Cup Champion and $12,000 in prize money . Dutch Olympic Sculler Melvin Twellaar from the Netherlands claimed his first Gold Cup title, also returning home with $12,000 in prize money. The event this year offered new racing formats and greater prize packages.
HUDSON Boat Works is a partner and official boat supplier of the Gold Challenge Cup, providing world class racing equipment and on-site technical support for competitors.
"Since 2018 our partnership with the Gold Cup has been mutually beneficial with shared vision and values," said Craig McAllister, Commercial Manager of HUDSON. "From the pursuit of excellence bringing the world's best to Philadelphia for a stock boat drag race, to the action on supporting greater Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in the sport of rowing, we look forward to being partners for the long haul."
According to Elle Carolan, PGCCF Board Member and overseer of Athlete Experience and Grant Fund, when considering partnerships— the Philadelphia Gold Challenge Cup Foundation looks at an organization's people, process, philosophy, and performance.
"Performance and process are no-brainers-- the boats are fast and providing our athletes with brand new custom hulls in a tight turnaround demonstrates strength in their production process," said Carolan. "What distinguishes HUDSON are their people and philosophy. The Gold Cup offers the largest cash prize in rowing—but our races are about more than that. We want the experience to be easy and fun for the athletes and HUDSON makes that happen by having their team on-site, on-demand all week."
