Canada's adaptive coxed four won its heat today at the 2010 World Rowing Championships in New Zealand.
The crew overtook the Germans in the heat to win in 3:21.22 over 1000 metres. The time is a World's Best, set previously (3:25.33) by Great Britain last year. The Canadians move directly to the final.
"It's a good start," said Rowing Canada Aviron adaptive lead coach, Jeff Dunbrack. "It was their first real international test of the year, and they obviously handled it well, but there is still room for improvement as we head into the finals."
The crew is: Laura Comeau (cox) - Ridley Graduate Boat Club (St. Catharines, ON) Meghan Montgomery - Winnipeg Rowing Club/Victoria City Rowing Club (Winnipeg, MB) Victoria Nolan - Bayside Rowing Club/Argonaut RC (Toronto, ON) David Blair - Ottawa Rowing Club (Ottawa, ON) Tony Theriault - Nanaimo Rowing Club (Nanaimo, B.C)
Adaptive rowing is a special category for those with physical disabilities. Canada's entry is in the LTA - Legs, Trunk, Arms - coxed four event.
