USRowing has canceled the Speed Order events originally scheduled to be run in Chula Vista CA Feb 15-19 and March 22-26 due to COVID-19 restrictions on running events in California.
In a release this morning, USRowing notes that "California's regional stay-home order, restrictions on hotels and short-term housing, along with quarantine periods, make it untenable for USRowing to hold these events."
The Feb 15-19 Speed Order was to be a men's pair event that would lead to automatic qualification to Camp Boat selection camps; the March 22-26 event was to offer the same to women's pairs.
For the women's pairs, the 2020 Camp Boat qualification event was held before COVID-19 restrictions were in place, and invitations earned at that event will be honored in 2021.
The Olympic Selection Procedures are to be updated this week with accommodations for athletes who hoped to earn invites to camp via the Speed Orders, the release notes.
The Feb 21-25 Olympic Trials for the M1x,W1x,M2x,LW2x,and LM2x are still scheduled to be run, with updated mitigation plans to be released soon.
