The Joan Lind Van Blom Sculling Endowment has been set up in honor of Joan Lind Van Blom to help fund women's sculling in the US, for which Joan was undeniably a trailblazer and ongoing inspiration.
You can join the effort here; the goal of the endowment is 1000 gifts and a minimum endowment of $100,000.
Additionally, five boats from the 1980 era will race in pink FOR JOAN shirts this weekend in Joan's honor in 1980 RC and Etats Unis crews, and invite other rowers and teams to do the same this fall.
The two women's senior masters eights (bow numbers 5 and 7), two men's senior masters eights (bow numbers 13 and 29), and one senior men's senior masters four (bow 3) will race in the shirts today; the shirts are also available from JL, and Carol Brown invites crews to race in Joan shirts as well:
"Joan's teammates from the 1980 Olympic Team are inviting folks to celebrate her life this fall by racing with her name on your back. Joan led us all in so many ways - competitor, teammate, friend, mentor, role model and hero. We'd love to see as many rowers honoring her life with this special shirt that JL Designs has created for us. The shirt is being produced at cost by JL. We thank them for their support in helping us honor this amazing woman."
