Dear Coaches, Captains, and Athletes,
After completing a safety review of the 2006 event, the Directors of the Head Of The Charles Regatta have eliminated practice on Saturday afternoon. While this was a difficult decision for many reasons, the Managing Directors agreed that Saturday evening practice cannot accomodate all the demand with creating undue safety hazards. Last year, over 700 boats attempted to practice in a two hour window. Therefore:
Practice will be available on Friday for all boats. For safety and insurance considerations, all boats must be off the water by 6 PM on Friday. No boats will be allowed to launch after 5:30 PM on Friday. The river will be closed to all non-racing shells after practice ends on Friday evening. Violation of this rule will result in disqualification. Saturday morning practice will be available to singles, doubles and quads only prior to racing. Rowers are encouraged to practice on Friday and several Coxswains Clinics will be scheduled to familiarize coxswains with the Head Of The Charles course and rules of racing. All coxswains are encouraged to attend. Please look for a schedule on the website this fall.
Please email [email protected] or call (617) 868-6200 with any questions.
