JUNIOR COACH OF THE YEAR
Coached national champions in women's single and women's quadruple sculls at the 2012 USRowing Youth National Championships. Coached the women's junior quadruple sculls boat at the 2012 World Rowing Senior and Junior Championships, winning its first-ever medal (silver).
Greg King/National Cathedral School
In his first season as head coach, dominated on national stage. Won gold at 2012 SRAAs (Scholastic Rowing Association of America) in the women's eight and silver at Stotesbury. Named All-Met Coach by Washington Post.
Rose Marchuk/New Trier HS
Freshman girls eight and second varsity girls eight won gold at the 2012 SRAAs. The varsity eight and 2V won the Midwest Scholastic Championships for the fifth consecutive year earlier in the season. New Trier's women won the Girls' Points trophy for the third straight year, and the entire team won the Overall Points trophy for an unprecedented sixth consecutive year.
Matthew Previts/Cleveland Scholastic RA
Head coach who has built a program for 7-12th graders from scratch, growing from 30 to 80 athletes in one season, believing that rowing is part of the future of Cleveland. Collaborated with local schools and charitable organizations, and led fundraising to buy equipment. Founded Cleveland Metropolitan School District Rows (CMSD Rows), encouraging a new group of young people to start rowing.
Peter Wilhelm/Narragansett Boat Club
Outstanding year in junior sculling. His junior double did not lose a race in the U.S., winning Youth Nationals, Club Nationals, and US Junior Trials. Dominated at Club Nationals, sweeping every single men's junior A sculling event (1x, 2x, 4x), as well as the Junior B 1x. After winning Junior Trials, 2x went to Junior and Senior Worlds in Bulgaria and finished eighth in the world; the highest ever finish for the United States.
