MASTERS ROWER OF THE YEAR

Striving to take her rowing to a new level this past year, Laurie set her sights on masters nationals in Worcester, Mass. She trained throughout the year, coming in 45 minutes early each day to lift weights and working hard in her single. The hard work paid off as Laurie won the single in her age category at 2012 USRowing Masters National Championships.Paul Green/Saugatuck RC
Green is an 88-year-old rower with Parkinsons who trains every day and utilizes rowing to ward off the symptoms of his illness. Paul competed in the 2012 USRowing Masters National Championships, rowing in the Men's Lightweight J 1x. He earned a bronze medal. Maldari consistently achieved strong results throughout 2012, competing in four events, both sweep and sculling, at USRowing Masters Nationals. He coxed a mixed 8+ to a silver medal at the Rumble on the River. As captain of masters rowing at Greater Lawrence, he is dedicated to improving the club and encouraging others to enjoy the benefits of rowing.Ed Ryan/Potomac Boat Club
Ryan assumed the role of club president, striving to make improvements. While ably leading the club, Ryan has distinguished himself on the water this year. Masters wins this year include men's 1x and mixed 2x at Schuylkill Navy; mixed 4x at Carnegie Lake; men's 1x at Stonewall Regatta; and lightweight 1x and 2x and men's 4x at Diamond States.Forrest Sanders/Nashville RC
Outstanding race results including gold in the mixed 2x at the 2012 USRowing Masters Nationals and two golds at Masters Nationals Head Race. But the hardware doesn't tell the whole story. Forrest's excellence as a rower and his role as a passionate advocate for the sport have elevated the level of rowing in the Southeastern U.S.
