Time to Recap what the row2k cameras snapped this week.
The Post-Race Cheetos Toss
This BCC athlete wanted to make sure the guys in the Gonzaga crew got their post-race feed started early after racing at St. Andrews:
She jumped up and started hurling Cheetos their way, which went about how you'd expect until the guys backed the boat a bit closer to the dock.
You can 'catch' the whole sequence here, complete with the sad sight of the Cheetos that fell short floating, uneaten. The six man thought it was hilarious, as did the whole BCC team cheering her on.
Beware the Geese of April (and May!)
Looks like the geese out there are getting ready for mischief just in time for championship season, ugh.
Good thing three seat is keeping an eye on this one--it was a near miss.
So Long, Screwdriver
Turns out we caught the last glimpse of this tool as it fell out of a coach's pocket and went for a swim.
We did spot the coach using a net to go "tool-fishing" later on, but no word on whether this screwdriver got rescued.
Yep, Still The Windiest...
As Recap-ed last week, Spring 2025 ranks as one of the windiest in a while, and showed no sign of letting up this weekend all over, including on the Cooper:
Except maybe during some of the rainier parts of Saturday's Cooper racing:
'That WWU Coxswain is Hot-Seating a Lot...' - Nope, Those are This Week's Twins!
For a minute at WIRAs, we thought one coxswain for the Western Washington men was doing an awful lot of hot-seating, but then we realized we'd actually found this week's Recap Twins.
Twin coxswains are a bit harder to spot, after all, since they're never in the same boat, let alone helpfully paired up in the lineup like our sets a few weeks back from Monmouth, Port, and the Wisco Lights.
But we did manage one shot of them together to be sure:
Photo Finish Winner
Here's a photo with a good backstory:
Before the racing started at the new King's Crowing Rowing Association Junior Invitational, the aligner and these four stakeboaters (all from Greenwich we believe) had a friendly wager on how many photo finishes there would be in the afternoon races. The aligner checked the results after each race and kept the group apprised; the aligner himself had guessed four, and only one guessed more: the celebrant you see in lane 3, who guessed the correct tally...five photo finishes.
Well, not quite correct; at the time everyone at the start was packing up, there was still a race on the course, which ended with a photo finish between third and fourth. So the final tally came to not five, but six photo finishes--but the celebrant still had the winning guess having made the closest guess...and cause to keep celebrating.
Strong work, Lane 3.
Boat Names
Here's a couple too good to save for our next boat name feature:
More Bow Pair Shenanigans
We caught yet another bow pair goofing hard this week:
Perhaps inspired by the Georgetown 3V lights in last week's Recap--one of whom told us via Instagram that he *is* in fact "kinda a niche lightweight rowing celebrity"--this duo also had a routine of poses they ran through for us.
wild2k
This week's adventure: a successful hunter heron action sequence on Lake Carnegie, which ended better for the heron than the fish:
You can see the whole sequence here, but is it better than a good old fashioned duck fight?
And the Natoma Eagle Enters the Chat
Spotted taking flight above the WIRA start line:
Which puts us a bit closer to unlocking the full set of race course bald eagles for the 2025 season.
Stake-spectating?
When your stake boaters turn into videographers...
The Bow Deck Bump
We spot this quite a bit, so it's becoming a bit of a tradition at the start:
Bow seat giving the shell a tap of its own after a set of fist bumps or high fives make their way down the boat. Good way to wish your chariot luck before it helps carry your crew down the course.
And Finally: Who Did It Better?
or
Our vote is for that Lane 1 stakeboater.
