Beach Sprints this year were in Genoa, Italy and conditions for the rowers and boat wranglers were especially gnarly with a shore break and a fairly rocky beach. Multiple Olympic champions felt the force of the waves and the Brazilian mixed double in the lead photo above had the it the worst with stroke seat Kissy Cataldo getting pinned under the water between the beach and the shell. We confirmed with her that evening she was ok and she continued to race later in the event. Officials moved to a on water timed finish shortly after that race. A few rowers were banged up but there were no serious injuries.
Beach Sprints will be a part of the Los Angeles Olympics, here's to calmer waters in LA!
