Rowing Hack: Instagram Your Lost & Found
December 3, 2024
John FX Flynn, row2k

Is there a boathouse that doesn't have a pile of lost and abandoned gear at the end of each season? Well, turns out Greenwich Crew came up with a pretty clever Rowing Hack for that problem.

Just "advertise" it all in your team's Instagram story so the kids will see it, and then actually come claim their stuff.

It's the Instagram Your Lost & Found Hack...and you can tune in here to see the fun the Greenwich coaches had with this trick.

The problem with any Lost & Found, of course, is that stuff just sits there forever, unclaimed. But if you can meet your athletes where they are--on the Insta, of course--they might just show up to grab a few things, especially if you can turn their missing gear into a bit of a gag.

When the Rowing Hacks stumbled across the Greenwich's IG story, we thought it was pretty much genius and, from what the Greenwich coaches tell us, they had a blast making the video. Plus, as you can see in the last clip of the story, it actually works: the kids collect their stuff.

And how does row2k know? Well, because we've used this hack ourselves, at the Linz Worlds in 2019.

Even if this Lost & Found hack doesn't do the trick at your place, and you still wind up with orphaned gear, there are Rowing Hacks for that, too. You can always put lost socks to work with the Track-Bite Guard Hack or the Sock-ed Water Bottle Trick...and abandoned Nalgenes are great candidates for the Water Bottle Toolkit Hack.

Do you have a clever way to get lost gear claimed at your place? If so, share your ideas--and hacks--in the comments below.

If you have a great rowing hack to suggest for future inclusion, then please send it to us and we will feature your idea in a future column.
