Checklist for the Start of Fall Season
September 12, 2022
Adam Bruce,

The fall season is starting and while most of these items are common sense, in the chaos of starting a new season, it's easy to forget a few things. Here is a quick checklist

 Check trailer lights
Tires (check for cracks and that they are holding pressure)
 Check breaks and bearings
Update registration if required in your state
Is your spare in good shape?
Inspect straps and replace worn out ones
 Trailer stern flags

 Service Launch motors
 Update registrations (if necessary)
 Clean launches
Check safety equipment (life jackets, radios, lights, etc)
Make sure water hasn’t leaked into fuel tanks (marinas often don’t check this)
 Is the fire extinguisher working?
Pump out launch pontoons and check for leaks

 Oil erg chains
 Replace dead batteries
Adjust or replace bungees on older ergs

Check rigging on all boats (adjust for the fall season)
Make sure all bolts are tight
The steering wire is free of obstructions and hasn’t frayed
Inspect wheels and bearings on seats
Check wiring to make sure speakers, impellers, and stroke rates work
Ensure shoes are still secure and heel ties are in place

 Clean oar handles
 Check rigging on oars
 Make sure bolts are tight
Make sure the correct sets of oars are together

Power cycle cox boxes. (fully charge, drain them, then charge them again).
Put cox boxes on a charging timer
 Power cycle megaphone batteries

Check you spare parts bins. Do they need a refill?
Replace or check cleaning supplies (Hoses, towels, soap, brooms, brushes, etc)
Has the first aid kit been resupplied?
Are there any sharp objects (nails) sticking out on the dock
 Register for regattas
 Book regatta accomodations and transportation
 Order your racing shirts
Anticipate winter equipment purchases to avoid shipping delays
