We do love a good Rowing Hack that is a variation on a theme, and doubly so when it doubles down on an already good idea, so why not "go for 2" when you get around to putting a water bottle holder in your single? That's right, make it a Bottle Cage Two-Fer.

We've already looked at how cycling's humble water bottle cage can easily be adapted to keep your hydration locked down and easily accessible. Bryan Fraser first suggested the Water Bottle Holder Hack to us, and David Schnepp tipped us off to the fact that zip-ties are the way to make the trick an easy--and easily adjustable--add to your shell.

This week's version, though, is the first we've come across that neatly accounts for the fact that those bottle cage-sized water bottles do run small...and it does so in the simplest way possible: doubling capacity by adding a second holder.

To be fair, row2k's Erik Dresser did spot this Hack at Worlds back in 2018, and any sculler competing there is, of course, literally next level, but this is a world-class trick that really anybody could adopt, provided there is enough room on your foot stretcher or stern bulkhead to fit both cages in.

Convenience and hacking street cred aside, we can think of a few good reasons to drop a few bucks on this upgrade: having your water bottle secure even when the boat is upside down gives you one less thing to carry to the dock--and a loose water bottle rattling around in the footwell is a sure way to eventually damage your hull from the inside out.
