More Than Rowing covers 100 Kent School boys crews between 1922 and 2021 and 47 girls crews stretching from 1973 to 2021. Each year was populated with young athletes living, learning, and growing, and their stories are worth remembering and preserving. This book has been a labor of love for me, an exercise in nostalgia for the participants, and a reminder to us all that we share so many common values and experiences on the water and off.
This week I present the section on the 1986 Girls, Kent’s second National Champion Crew after the 1935 Boys Crew had won the 1st Annual Schoolboy Rowing Association Championship fifty-one years earlier. Bob Ernst and Hart Perry make brief appearances in this one memorable story among the many during the emergence of women in our beloved sport of rowing.
You can now pre-order the book here, individually and gratefully signed by the author!
This book is full of universal stories that just happen to be about rowing at one particular school. If you ever rowed or if you ever admired a rower, this book was written for you.
As of today this two-volume hard cover all-color history will be available for pre-order through row2k.
As was the case with The Sport of Rowing, the print run will be limited. Ten years ago TSOR sold out within days, and many missed out, so we encourage you to order now so that history does not repeat itself. The price is $150, and all copies will be individually and gratefully signed by the author.
