As we continue to educate ourselves and reflect on the experiences of people of color in the athletic community and in the world, we wanted to share the incredible work of rower and author @arshay_cooper whose memoir ?A Most Beautiful Thing? will be released June 30th, followed by the motion picture release of @amostbeautifulthing in select theaters on June 12th. This work is preceded by his first novel, ?Suga Water?. These books masterfully navigate Arshay?s profound experiences as a member of the first all-black high school rowing team in a historically white dominated sport. We want to #amplifymelanatedvoices and support @arshay_cooper and his work for the rowing community. Here?s a link to the webpage for ?A Most Beautiful Thing? and a link to Arshay?s website for more information on where to find this book, release dates and locations for the film, clips, and resources. www.arshaycooper.com www.amostbeautifulthing.com. #amplifymelanatedvoices #rowing #energy #grit #gratitude #smithrowing #blacklivesmatter #egg #fortheteam #crew

We will not be bystanders. We are saddened and angered by the recent unjust events and continued challenges our country is facing as a result of systemic racism. We need to reach out and help in any way we can, and take action to increase access to our predominantly white sport. We row on the Potomac River with spectacular views of the National Mall and monuments at dawn. Many of these monuments honor pivotal moments and figures in history when we fought for freedom, for justice, and for equality. The words inscribed at the memorial honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr ring particularly true right now. ?Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.? Please consider donating to these groups and educate yourself on how to be better allies through this sad time. @blackvisionscollective @reclaimtheblock @mnfreedomfund @blklivesmatter Thank you to our friends @philadelphiacityrowing, @rowingincolor, @reachhighrowing, @rownewyork, @rowboston for your work to expand rowing and increase diversity and inclusion. We?re with you and we will do better ??? (? by @birch)
