It's pretty daunting to put yourself in a vunerable position like this, but I thought it was very important to share the beauty in female athletic bodies. There's a lot of blood, sweat and tears that go into moulding our bodies in order to optimise our performance. Each muscle group has a specific role to play and helps us achieve our ambitions. Almost 7 years to the day from winning our Olympic bronze, it's clear to me it's time to retire from elite rowing. Leaving my wife and kids to selfishly train and try to win another medal has been the most challenging thing I've done in the sport. Ultimately I'm at peace with my career and no longer have the desire or drive to miss any more time with my wife or my boys. There are so many people to thank who have helped me along the way, too many to name here. I've had so many host families, coaches, teammates, family who have been on this journey with me, helped me, supported me, pushed me and I am so grateful to every one of them for that and for cheering me on in the process. There is a ton of good, young talent on the US mens team this year and it makes me excited to cheer for them in Austria, next year in Tokyo, and well into the future! ?? Go USA ??
